Falkland Islands 2018 Sapphire Coronation Coat of Arms Blue Titanium Coin

The coin features the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom which are utilised by Her Majesty in her official capacity as Monarch of the United Kingdom. The Royal Coat of Arms that appears on the coin has been taken from Priors Gate at Winchester Cathedral and the pattern that surrounds the coat of arms replicates the design of Her Majestys Coronation gown designed by Norman Hartnell.

The Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place on 2nd June 1953 at Westminster Abbey and to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of this historical celebration, a spectacular brand-new coin is being released on behalf of the Falkland Islands Government.

Princess Elizabeth acceded the throne at the age of 25 upon the death of her father, King George VI, on 6th February 1952. The Coronation took place more than a year later due to tradition that holding such an occasion is inappropriate during the grieving that follows the death of a monarch and also due to the time it takes to really arrange such a significant royal occasion.

The obverse of the coin is an Effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II produced exclusively by Pobjoy Mint. As Titanium reacts differently with every strike each of the 7,500 Titanium coins are technically different and vary slightly in colour. There is also a lined effect that is present on the coins which is unique to this metal.
